The most famous TV series ‘The Vampire Diaries’, gained a lot of love and admiration amongst the fans in a short period of time only. This American supernatural teen drama has a total number of 8 series and 171 episodes. The show is based on a very famous book series written by L.J. Smith by the same name.
It was first aired on September 10, 2009, and ran up till March 10, 2017, when the series concluded it’s episode. The whole story is set up in a city named Mystic Falls which revolves around the whole supernatural things. After the end of the last season which is the 8th season of the series, there have been no speculations about the further renewal of the series. As the last episode concluded the whole thing and the story, therefore as of May 2020, we can’t see any new development for season 9 of the show. We know that the confirmation about another season of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ has been negative, but the good news is that we may get to see something new from its spin-off series ‘Legacies’ and ‘The Originals’.

However, talking about the upcoming casts of the show it seems difficult for the producers to bring back the previous lead characters. Ian Somerhalder who was seen as Damon Salvatore has reportedly denied being on the show and even joked about not being able to play the young and charming vampire anymore. Apart from him, the other main characters such as Nina Dobrev and Paul Welsey who played the characters of Elena Gilbert and Stefan Salvatore respectively have reportedly also refused to further continue on the show.
