‘Run to the rescue with love and peace will follow.’
Joaquin Phoenix gave a warm shout-out to his late brother during his speech after he received Best Actor Award at Oscars. River Phoenix was a singer-songwriter and guitarist, and formed the band Aleka’s Attic.
Joaquin took home The Best Actor Prize for his role of Arthur Fleck in Joker at Oscars 2020, becoming the second actor to win the Oscar for playing notorious villain joker by DC comics. Heath Ledger won the Oscar for playing Joker in The Dark Knight in 2008.
During his speech at Oscars, Phoenix talked about the various heated topics that has consumed the world such as climate change, racism, animal rights, human rights, gender equality and cancel culture.
Before he quoted the lyrics from his brother River’s song, he said,”I’ve been a scoundrel all my life. I’ve been selfish. I’ve been cruel at times, hard to work with, and I’m grateful that so many of you in this room have given me a second chance.”
Then he added “When he was 17, my brother wrote this lyric, He said, ‘Run to the rescue with love and peace will follow”. Previously also he credited River with persuading him to return to acting while accepting the TIFF Tribute Actor Award in Toronto in September.
Seriously, Phoenix was definitely a sweetheart at Oscars this year.
