OnePlus is about to do something different with their phones this year. Not only is the company going to launch the successor to its OnePlus 6T soon, slated to be named as the OnePlus 7, but OnePlus has also confirmed that it will release another device alongside its regular OnePlus 7 which will be called the OnePlus 7 Pro on the 14th of May. This OnePlus 7 Pro will be released as an upgraded version of the regular OnePlus 7 version and it will be one of the first phones which will have native support for 5G connectivity.
Since 2014, OnePlus has gained a huge reputation for making flagship phones which have premium specs at a budget-friendly price tag. This formula has worked wonders for the company, and now it is one of the best-selling smartphone brands in India and China. But OnePlus’s successful strategy of serving up similar features like the iPhones and Galaxy S devices has become harder to maintain as its prices are steadily rising across its new phones. When compared to other smartphone brands, the company has one of the biggest bumps in its prices from model to model.
As such, it will be very interesting to see what OnePlus’s next batch of flagship handsets have in store and how much each of these models will cost the consumer. The company has a track record of usually announcing the first flagship of the year during springtime, which is followed by an incrementally updated phone known as the “T version” during the fall. It is unclear if the company which touts itself as the flagship killer will launch the regular version of the OnePlus 7 on the same day as the version of the OnePlus 7 Pro.
While it might make sense to announce both these phones at the same even and time, a representative from OnePlus has declined to comment on this specific matter. Because OnePlus is holding four simultaneous events for the debut of its OnePlus 7 Pro, one of which will be held in New York, it is unclear if the OnePlus 7 Pro is the same 5G phone that the company has said it would launch for the UK.
Only time will tell what the May 14 event has in store for OnePlus fans, but we will update you as soon as anything is certain.
Pete Lau, who is the CEO of OnePlus has confirmed during an interview at the MWC 2019 event that the next OnePlus phone will not support any kind of wireless charging. Lau says that wireless charging will not be as fast as its Dash charging technology.
Lau said that the technology behind the OnePlus charging is currently one of the best in the smartphone industry whereas wireless charging is far inferior to that technology.
This does not mean that OnePlus is not working on support for wireless charging in the future. A big challenge surrounding this technology is that it has a tendency to overheat the phone. Pete Lau has stated that he does not have an exact date for when the wireless charging technology will be supported on future OnePlus phones.
Pete Lau has confirmed on Monday that the rumored OnePlus 7 Pro is indeed real and this phone will support 5G connectivity. OnePlus has also set a date for this smartphone’s launch which is on May 14 at 11:00 a.m. ET. OnePlus will hold launch events in cities such as London, New York, London, Beijing, and Bangalore.
