Barack Obama is a former president of United States. He addressed graduate students through his speech on Saturday, May 16, 2020. The school, named, “Graduate Together: High School Class of 2020 Commencement,” invited Obama to address graduates. Barack Obama also made two commencement addresses. In the first commencement, he said, “If the world’s going to get better, it going to be up to you”. He also talked about the discrimination of racism in his speech. Additionally, Obama said that white people in America treat differently with black Americans. Further, he told about the death of one black man, who was only 25 years old. The black man, named, Ahmaud Arbery, was jogging in Georgia. Two white men killed him. This is really very terrible and the young minds or graduates should change this scenario, who are the future of America.

Firstly, he said, ” You are being asked to find your way in the world in the middle of a devastating pandemic and terrible recession.” He further spoke, ” The timing is not ideal. And, let’s be honest – a disease like this just spotlights the underlying inequalities and extra burdens that black communities have historically had to deal with in this country”.

Again, he addressed, “We see it in the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on our communities, just as we see it when a black man goes for jog, and some folks feel like they can stop and question and shoot him if he does not submit to their answer”. Here, Obama compared the death of black man with pandemic disease. He made graduates aware of racism going in United States. This was the first commencement address to the graduates.

Firstly, he told that, nowadays, graduating is a very big achievement. Next, he told that many students face problems in their studies. Some students may have an illness problem, some may also have financial problems and many more. Additionally, students face the problems of social media, reports of school shootings, and many more. But, due to lockdown, many students spend their day watching Television shows, playing games, etc. Students should utilize this time and enhance their skills.

Further, Obama gave a message of life to students. He told students that they should be able to decide what is important, what kind of career do they want, with whom they want to spend their life, and the values you want to live by.
