NVIDIA has launched Max-Q GPU with new hardware incorporated in it which is the RTX 2080 Super Max-Q GPU and many new features have also been added. These features will help to boost the gaming performance of the laptop. Max-Q features present in it will help to boost the performance and it will improve the battery life for the laptop but these features will only be available in new 2020 laptops. NVIDIA has launched RTX 2080 and RTX 2070 Super Max-Q GPUs for gaming laptops only. NVIDIA has also decided to discontinue RTX 2080 Max-Q.
The improvements are that new RTX 2080 Supermodel has now increased CUDA cores to 3072 as compared to 2,944 before. But there is no change in boost clock, memory configuration and bandwidth. Graphics power range has been increased to 80 to 150+ watts.
RTX 2070 Super has now 2,560 CUDA cores compared to 2,304 in RTX 2070 Max-Q. The base boost clock has increased to 1,155 to 1,380 MHz compared to 1,125 to 1,455 MHz present in RTX 2070 Max-Q. Rest of the specifications are the same. The static thermal systems in NVIDIA GPUs could now use 115 watts and distribute the CPU or GPU could get 15 per cent more on a frame-by-frame basis which will boost the gaming experience of the laptop.
Another update that has been introduced is NVIDIA’s Advanced Optimus technology that is a controller that select either the GPU or integrated graphics and now it will drive the built-in display directly hence improving its performance. Now GPU can directly connect to display port. But this hardware will only work for the latest RTX and GTX laptops.
