For those who are getting bored in this lockdown, the period has a great opportunity to explore the world of comic book entertainment this week. The Kickstarter is giving away the anthology The Worlds of Kickstarter Comics in association with ‘Alt Free Comic Days’ which is an alternative to the May Free Comic Book Day event. The Digital Collection will be available for the subscriber of the ‘Kickstarter Reads’ on May 2.
The event is being organized by Russell Nohelty and will take place this weekend. It will feature excerpts from 12 different projects that were funded on Kickstarter from the 300 excerpts nominated by the fans. Creator whose excerpts have been included Jeffrey Veregge, Melanie Gillman, Arianne Hokoki, and Henry Barahas and Jason Gonzales. Those who want to access the excerpts for free need to subscribe to the Kickstarter Reads newsletter by May 2.
One of the key excerpts is Elements: Fire which has won Eisner Award for best anthology in 2018. Kickstarter comics outreach lead Camilla Zhang said in a statement that the anthology represents “the depth of our community’s creative work”. He said that he is giving anthology free as a gift for his creators, backers, and comics readers and people should not stop exploring the world even during this time of the pandemic.
The release is an alternative to annual May Free Comic Book Day event, an event that was postponed due to coronavirus pandemic. The virtual fest will be held on Friday and Saturday and will feature keynotes from Teen Titans co-creator Marv Wolfman. The virtual fest will be featuring panel which includes Cecil Castellucci, Roye Okupe, and Kevin Eastman. The virtual fest will appear on the panel “Crushing Your Kickstarter” at 11 a.m. PT on Saturday.
