It was too rare for actors to play different in the MCU. This is mainly for one reason which is that this will not be called out by the fans as a continuity error.
Marvel, however, risked this thing with Gemma Chan. Allowing him to play a different character. She did so in The Eternals but she a different one in Captain Marvel. Even though, Alfred Woodard has appeared as two character. He played different ones in Luke Cage and Captain America: Civil War.
Mahershala Ali will also join this list. This will happen when he comes on the screens as Blade even though he has already shown up as Luke Cage.
Besides that, our irreplaceable Stan Lee has also been part of many movies too. 🙂
How does all of this matter?
Only one other person has done this and that is Kenneth Choi. He has appeared in two different MCU movies. But, there a connection between his two characters which you might not know at all.
Kenneth first showed up in the MCU as Jim Morita during Captain America: The First Avenger. He was also one of the soldiers who were freed by the Cap from HYDRA. He was saved by him before he became part of Howling Commandos, a elite combat unit. This is led by Cap and Bucky. They took down many HYDRA bases.
After Cap was gone in the Arctic Ocean, Howling Commandos was taken over by Dum Dum Dugan. They also appeared in Agent Carter and Agent of Shield.
What is so special about this?
After this, Morita only showed up once in Agents of SHIELD. The episode was in season two and it was called ‘Shadows’. However, that was not the end of this man’s screen time on the MCU movies. He also showed up in Spider-Man: Homecoming. He was the Principal of Midtown School of Science and Technology.
We never got to know about his first name but the last name is the one that matters. That last name is Morita. This clearly means that this guy, is the grandson of the man in Captain America: The First Avenger. Isn’t that awesome?
It is a very special touch. The principal’s office also has a photo of Jim Morita. You can see it for a tiny duration in the movie.
There is one more connection
The above is not the only connection between the Cap and Spidey. In some scenes, the Captain himself shows up in some public service announcements. We see these during the movie. If you missed them then you might not have seen the movie.
