Asteroid Flyby: What Will Happen In April 2020

A large and a potential hazardous asteroid is bound to fly by our planet but apparently it poses no threats.

Asteroid (52768) 1998 OR2 with an estimated diameter of 1.1 to 2.5 miles will make a close approach to earth on April 29. While it could wreck earth if it crashed into it but the asteroid poses no threat.

At its closest approach the asteroid will be 6.3 million km from earth which is also roughly 16 more times than the distance between our planet and the moon and the approach will happen around 5:56 a.m. EDT.

It only has been classified as hazardous because it fulfils some of the criteria in NASA’s classification scheme.

The asteroid which orbits the sun between the orbits of earth and mars won’t even come near the planet again until may 18, 2031 according to NASA and its two next flybys in 20148 and 2062 it will be even more further away and finally in 2079 it will be only 1.1 million miles away.

NASA and its partners are always very active and looking out for any hazardous items coming our way and if something like that ever comes around they will surely have a way to deflect it.
