“An intriguing premise makes ‘A Quiet Place’ an essential horror flick because of its understanding of the genre, and a cast that absorbs you into their terrifying world.” – Neil Soans, ToI on ‘A Quiet Place’ (2018)
A Quiet Place II is an American horror film and sequel of the 2018 block buster A Quiet Place. Written and directed by John Krasinski, we have Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe return in their original roles. John Krasinski reprises his role as the iconic Lee Abbott in the flashback scenes following his death in the prequel.
The plot continues along the lines of its prequel, of a family which struggles to survive in the silence in the post-apocalyptic world inhabited by blind extra-terrestrial with an acute sense of hearing. Taking up from the previous movie, following the death of her husband, Evelyn Abbott and her family must now face a whole new set of creatures apart from the ones that hunt by sound. With the theme based sound tracks and the chilling camera work, the movie promises a nail-biting experience, staying true to its genre.
Soon after the release of the critically acclaimed and commercially successful ‘A Quiet Place’ in 2018, reports confirmed that John Krasinski had already started writing for sequel. He was roped in to direct the same in 2019. Even though the movie was slated to release on May 15, 2020, movie distributors Paramount Pictures recently announced that the sequel would release in theatres in the United States and Canada on March 20, 2020 to the viewer’s delight.
The first look poster and the first teaser for the movie was released a short while before Christmas, 2019. New Year’s Day saw the release of the trailer, leaving the horror movie fans excited for the release in March. The first trailer saw a flashback of the pre apocalyptic time, suddenly shifting to the present with Lee dead and narrow chances of survival for the family. The second trailer premiered in the ad break during the Super Bowl on February 2, 2020 revealing the return of John Krasinski.
• Emily Blunt as Evelyn Abbott
• Milicent Simmonds as Regan Abbott
• Noah Jupe as Marcus Abbott
• John Krasinski as Lee Abbott
• Cillian Murphy as Emmett
• Djimon Hounsou
Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou have also joined the cast. The young generation of movie geeks would surely know Cillian Murphy who put forward a great performance in both The Dark Knight and Peaky Blinders. He could be seen helping the Abbott family stay safe in a shed of sorts in the trailer. Djimon Hounsou is no stranger to us, his performance in Blood Diamond still gives us the feels. Although it is very unclear of what role he would be playing in the sequel, he sure is bound to give an amazing experience in the theatre.
In a recent press interview, Murphy was heard saying “For me, Emmett represents where the heart of the world lies right now, which is; which is, finally feeling like they’ve all given up” referring to his character in the movie. He went on to say about the special bond between his character and the one played by Milicent Simmonds, Regan.
The series took birth in March 2016 when John Krasinski was hired to read and rewrite a script. The movie drew inspiration from classics like No Country for Old Men and Alien. The prequel ‘A Quiet Place, was directed by John Krasinski while the screenplay was written by him along with Bryan Woods and Scott Beck. The release and several awards and accolades later, the discussion regarding a sequel took form, with John Krasinski agreeing to direct in 2019. The social metrics of the sequel seem to be going very strong, predicting a huge box office collection in its first week of release.
With No Time to Die and Mulan slated to be released around the same time, movie buffs have been talking about some great content to watch out for this year.
